Everton injury news on Calvert-Lewin

Many Everton fans have been left raging over some injury news involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

As per the official website of the Goodison Park faithful, the striker has now suffered a setback in his rehab from an injury to his quadriceps and will remain out for a number of weeks.

He will continue to receive specialist treatment, and another fitness update will come from the Merseyside club in due course.

After the injury news on Abdoulaye Doucoure earlier on this week, to see another one of their key players out for a few weeks is certainly the last thing that the Toffees supporters wanted to hear.

Nonetheless, it is now time for Salomon Rondon to step up, and show the fans why the Blues decided to take a punt on him in the summer transfer window.

Leeds: Adam Forshaw out for the season with knee injury

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw will miss Monday’s meeting with Crystal Palace and the five games that will follow due to a fresh knee problem.

The Lowdown: Forshaw’s season

Forshaw, who missed a whopping 71 games with a hip problem, made a long-awaited return to action last August against Crewe Alexandra.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-42/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Englishman has gone on to make 26 appearances in all competitions, 22 of which have come in the Premier League.

He missed his first game under new manager Jesse Marsch against Watford earlier this month, and he won’t be featuring again as the Whites look to avoid relegation.

The Latest: Six-week absence

Football Insider were the first to break the news regarding Forshaw after being informed by a source on Friday morning.

They described it as a ‘devastating blow’, with the 30-year-old in a leg brace after suffering a knock in training.

Jesse Marsch confirmed the injury at his pre-match press conference, revealing the midfielder has a fractured knee cap and will be sidelined for six weeks.

The Verdict: Never ending…

Marsch has already suffered three big injury blows since taking over from Marcelo Bielsa in Tyler Roberts, Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford, so this update on Forshaw is another problem he’ll have to deal with.

The good news is that Kalvin Phillips will make his first start since December, while Mateusz Klich and Robin Koch look set to battle it out for a place next to the England international at Selhurst Park.

Another midfield setback would leave Marsch extremely short of options, but fingers crossed that won’t happen with the battle to avoid the drop getting tense.

Conte must axe this Spurs star vs West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur have one final game before Christmas as they welcome Premier League rivals West Ham United to north London for a Carabao Cup quarter-final.

And with a place in the last four up for grabs, it leaves manager Antonio Conte with plenty to ponder in terms of team selection.

Last time out, the Lilywhites were held to a 2-2 draw to ten-man Liverpool, whilst they defeated Burnley and Wolves to make it this far in the competition.

The Italian head coach has a largely fully-fit squad to choose from, so it will be interesting to see what decisions he may make ahead of kick-off, particularly with his midfield, where a rarely-seen trio of Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele all featured on Sunday.

It’s the latter who could make way, surprisingly, as he was the most underwhelming of the three players, who all had a point to prove to Conte.

He was not only the first player to be substituted, coming off for Oliver Skipp in the 64th minute, but he too was their third lowest-rated player (6.4) as the French dynamo struggled to have much of an influence on the game.

Yes, he provided an assist for Harry Kane’s opener but as explained by the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, he was otherwise ‘largely a passenger’ who offered ‘little defensively’ and more than once was caught ‘overplaying in dangerous positions.’

Across his hour on the pitch, Ndombele managed only 11 passes and 30 touches, which shows that he was barely involved. For further context, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris managed more in both regards, and he’s stood between the sticks all game, not in an advanced midfield role.

Once dubbed a “world-beater” and “unplayable” by former Spurs shot-stopper Joe Hart to BT Sport’s Rio Ferdinand (via football.london), the £26m-rated maestro is surely in line for the axe tonight.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ embarrassing defeat to NS Mura last month saw ex-midfielder Jamie O’Hara dub the £55m man “absolutely shocking”, which only goes to show his vastly-contrasting performances in Spurs’ colours.

Conte cannot afford to carry someone in a game of his nature. Having been knocked out of the UEFA Europa Conference League, this tournament could be the north Londoners’ only genuine chance of silverware, so it must be taken seriously.

As such, the 52-year-old must be ruthless with the club’s inconsistent club-record signing. He must be dropped this evening.

NUFC could replace Lascelles with Rodon

The January transfer window has just under two weeks left to run and Newcastle United have been active in bringing players to the club this month.

They have already signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood on permanent deals and have been linked with a number of new additions to further strengthen their squad.

Eddie Howe’s side are 19th in the Premier League table and in desperate need of new signings, given that the current squad has them in such a perilous position as it stands.

Replace Lascelles

One player who could be replaced in the final two weeks of the transfer window is centre-back Jamaal Lascelles, with Joe Rodon recently being linked with a switch to St James’ Park.

Some Newcastle fans took to Twitter over the weekend to criticise the club captain for his performance against Watford, as he lost his aerial duel to allow Joao Pedro to score the equaliser.

The defender has started 16 of the club’s Premier League matches this season and the Magpies have the second-worst defensive record in the division. He has also averaged a modest WhoScored rating of 6.48 for his individual performances, which suggests that he is far from smashing it in recent months.

This indicates that Newcastle need to improve in this area of the pitch, and the prospective signing of Rodon could allow Howe to brutally axe Lascelles from the team.

Ex-Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink lavished the £24k-per-week Tottenham centre-back with praise last term. He told Sky Sports, via Wales Online: “He looks like a proper Spurs player, a centre-half, nothing fazes him, he put his head in when needed. You have to be comfortable on the ball because you want to control the game.

“I like that he gets up straight away and gets on with it because that tells me he is hard enough.”

Earlier this year, journalist Ian Mitchelmore hailed Rodon as “flawless” and a “special player” following an excellent showing for Wales at international level. For Spurs last season, he averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 6.97 in the Premier League as he won a whopping 73% of his duels.

At the age of 24, he also has the majority of his career ahead of him. This means that he would not come in as a short-term fix and could instead be a long-term solution to Newcastle’s problem with Lascelles in the centre-back position, with Howe able to axe his current captain by signing Rodon and helping him develop over time.

Journalist shares Kessie update involving Spurs

Taking to Twitter, journalist Rudy Galetti of Sportitalia TV has made an interesting claim involving AC Milan star Franck Kessie, Tottenham Hotspur and the Rossoneri’s owner.

The Lowdown: Spurs target Kessie…

As widely reported, Milan’s star midfield man has been a transfer target for the Lilywhites and some sources even claimed that they were weighing an offer to sign him as early as last month.

This was despite Kessie’s soon-to-be free agent status as his deal at the San Siro looks set to expire later this year, but that isn’t due to Milan’s lack of trying to agree an extension.

They’ve apparently offered fresh terms but the Ivory Coast international hasn’t put pen to paper, leaving his long term future with the Serie A giants in major doubt.

Now, Galetti has said that the Milan management are fuming with Kessie as he makes a claim involving Tottenham.

The Latest: Galetti makes Kessie claim…

Taking to Twitter, the Italian reporter says that Milan’s owner, president of Elliot Management and American business tycoon Paul Singer, is angry with Kessie after he ‘refused’ an offer to join Tottenham last month.

Indeed, it is believed that he ‘did not like’ the star’s decision considering his exit to north London would’ve resulted in profit for Milan off his sale.

Following this development it is claimed by Galetti that ‘no further renewal proposals’ are on the table.

The Verdict: Interesting…

While this may seem like Spurs missed out on yet another top target after seeing moves for both Luis Diaz and Adama Traore hijacked, this could eventually come as a boost for the Lilywhites.

As Milan allegedly make the call not to offer any more extensions, he now looks set to leave at the end of this campaign on a free and Spurs would be remiss not to take full advantage.

Bypassing the £43.2 million-valued star’s estimated would-be transfer cost and snapping him up for nothing is a no-brainer, especially considering his brilliant 19-goal haul from midfield since the start of 2019/2020.

Liverpool want Bruno Fernandes

[ad_pod ]

According to Correio de Manha via The Mirror, Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes is on Liverpool’s radar as Jurgen Klopp looks to add to his attacking contingent having missed out on signing Lyon’s Nabil Fekir. Could he be the missing piece in the jigsaw?

What’s the word?

Well, The Mirror reports (via Correio de Manha) that the Portuguese is a target for both AC Milan and the Reds as the club look to negotiate his exit amid crushing debt that amounts to around €281m.

The midfielder’s release clause of €100million (£87m) is unlikely to be met by either of the aforementioned suitors and Sporting will surely have to negotiate a lower price in order to get the player off their books.

Having already seen the likes of William Carvalho and Rui Patricio leave over the summer in controversial fashion, the Lisbon-based outfit could be set to lose yet another star at the end of the season. What would be their undoubted loss, though, would be of enormous benefit to Jurgen Klopp and his side.

Finally… a playmaker

Klopp’s tactical flexibility has seen the Reds flirt with a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-4-2, while also frequenting the 4-3-3 that has helped them become masters of Gegenpressing.

The former has required centre-forward Roberto Firmino to be deployed in the number 10 role while Mohamed Salah has been moved up front. Although the famous front three’s linkup is as glorious as ever, there still remains the lack of an out-and-out playmaker.

Bayern Munich were resolute in their defending at Anfield on Tuesday night and it was clear the home side were crying out for a player who could create something out of nothing and unpick the Bavarians’ defence with a special pass, as pinpointed by frustrated Reds fans below…

This has been a weakness of Liverpool’s since the departure of Philippe Coutinho and Klopp surely feels this needs addressing. Fekir was intended to plug this gap but a switch to Merseyside never materialised and so the title challengers remain an incomplete puzzle.

Are fan nerves to blame for Liverpool’s recent form? Pl>ymaker FC’s Tom Skinner discusses in the video below…

If Manchester City prove too good once again this term, the signing of 24-year-old Fernandes, who has chalked up an impressive 21 goals and 11 assists in 2018/19, could be the addition that takes the Reds beyond their title rivals next season.

Clark’s value has plummeted at Newcastle

Newcastle’s new owners made the decision to sack manager Steve Bruce last month after just over two years at the helm on Tyneside.

The ex-Sunderland and Aston Villa coach was relieved of his duties after failing to pick up a win in the Premier League, with Eddie Howe recently being named as his permanent successor following a short stint from Graeme Jones as interim head coach.

Along the way, a number of Newcastle players regressed and decreased in value as Bruce was unable to kick the club on and push them towards a fight for top-half finishes.

Time’s up

One player we recently suggested Howe should axe from the team, Ciaran Clark, is one of those. His development has been stunted in recent years and he is now on a downwards trend. This means that it could be his time to be sold in the January transfer window, or next summer ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

When Bruce was appointed as Newcastle manager in the summer of 2019, the Ireland international was valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt. Under Rafa Benitez, his value increased from £4.05m as the Spaniard got the best out of the defender, but Bruce was unable to continue the former Liverpool coach’s good work.

The £42k-per-week defender has averaged a dismal SofaScore rating of 6.66 in the Premier League this season, down from the 6.80 he managed last term. In the 2020/21 campaign, he only completed 64% of his passes into the opposition half and helped Newcastle keep three clean sheets in 22 league matches.

At the time of writing (14/11/21), Transfermarkt value Clark at £2.7m. This means that his value plummeted by 50% in just two years under Bruce, having gone up by over £1m during Benitez’s tenure at St. James’ Park. His failure to help the Magpies keep a tight defence and his lapse passing may have contributed to his loss of value, with Bruce unable to get a tune out of the ex-Villa man.

He has already proven himself to be a liability this season, giving a penalty away and failing to keep a single clean sheet in nine games. As a result of his foolish challenge that gave away a spot-kick against Brighton, Toon legend Alan Shearer said: “First of all, it’s a stupid challenge from Clark, he should never make that challenge there.”

Bruce set him on this slope and it remains to be seen whether or not Howe will be able to get him back to his best. Sadly, that’s why his time on Tyneside could be up; Newcastle have to cash in on him before his value drops further.

Spurs table offer Mensah offer

Speaking to Football Insider, N17 club source and Tottenham Hotspur ‘insider’ John Wenham, who regularly breaks news on his Lilywhites Rose social media account, has shared his own update on Peterborough defender Benjamin Mensah.

The Lowdown: Spurs eye Mensah move…

In the last week, news came to light of Tottenham’s interest in the Posh full-back with Sky Sports (via the72) first lifting the lid on an enquiry from by managing director Fabio Paratici.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Following on from the story, the Championship side’s own Director of Football, Barry Fry, confirmed that he has ‘talked to Tottenham’ – but the initial approach was swiftly turned down.

The Latest: Insider shares update…

Sharing an update, Wenham has explained that Spurs have indeed made an ‘offer’ to sign Mensah but he is certainly one for the future.

However, the fact Tottenham have tabled a proposal shows how serious the club is about signing the talented teenager.

“He’s very much one for the future,” Wenham explained to Football Insider.

“As I understand it, we have made an offer. He has only made a few appearances for their first team.

“I imagine if he did come this month he would be loaned straight back to Peterborough for the remainder of the season.

“I also imagine many ‘football twitter’ accounts would react to the news of him arriving with something like ‘who is he?’

“This is certainly one for the future and someone our scouts have found on their travels.

“The fact we have made an offer tells me there is a strong interest in getting this deal done before someone else signs him.”

The Verdict: Exciting prospect?Having only just signed his professional contract, Mensah has already earned rave reviews from former Manchester United man and current Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson. The 49-year-old called Mensah ‘aggressive’ and ‘excellent’ in one-vs-one situations and went on to explain that he possesses all the best traits required in a modern-day full-back.This could pinpoint a really promising future player for Spurs and we believe it is a move they should certainly attempt to get over the line as they also work on more key first team additions. In other news: Conte green-lights move for £220,000-per-week ‘jewel’ as he lays out transfer demand for Spurs chiefs, find out more here.

Everton predicted XI vs Man United

Everton will host Manchester United in an important clash at Goodison Park this afternoon, and Frank Lampard must do everything he can to keep his team’s relegation fate in their hands by taking all three points from today.

Conceding their third consecutive defeat this afternoon could send the Toffees into the bottom three by the conclusion of the weekend if Burnley defeat Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday.

Despite the pressure mounting, Everton have received a triple boost as both Allan and Michael Keane return from suspension for the match today and Seamus Coleman is also available following a bout of illness which has ruled him out of the last two games.

Having these three experienced players available for selection again will definitely be a relief to Lampard as they take on a difficult challenge against Ralf Rangnick’s side in the early kick-off.

The injury table is unchanged for the fixture, with Yerry Mina, Nathan Patterson and Andros Townsend still unavailable, whilst Man United loanee Donny Van de Beek is ineligible for the fixture against his parent club.

With that in mind, this is how Football FanCast expect Everton to line up against their opponents at Goodison Park today…

Predicted XI: Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Godfrey, Kenny; Doucoure, Allan, Iwobi; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Gordon

We predict that the Everton boss will make three changes to the team which lost to Burnley on Wednesday night, playing a 4-3-3 formation against the Red Devils.

We expect to see two changes in the back four to accommodate the return of Keane and Coleman, with Kenny moving into the left-back role to replace Vitaliy Mykolenko. That sees the captain resume duties at right-back, while Keane will be restored to the centre-back partnership alongside Ben Godfrey, taking the place of Jarrad Branthwaite.

One player we predict to be axed from the team today is Mason Holgate, who was labelled “poor” by Paul Robinson and endured a shocking performance against Burnley this week. The 25-year-old makes way for Allan to return following his three-game suspension.

The £120k-p/w Brazilian, who was hailed as “vital” by BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher, has been a crucial component in Everton’s midfield this season, starting in the defensive role in all of their victories this season, so it is a no-brainer that he makes an instant return to the team this afternoon.

Lampard must capitalise on the advantage of playing at home for this fixture, especially given the Toffees’ dreadful away record, and will be hoping that the team can salvage one of their few remaining chances to secure safety in the Premier League for next season.

Leeds have held pre-summer transfer meeting

A big Leeds United transfer update has emerged regarding the club’s plans for the upcoming summer window…

What’s the talk?

Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross has revealed that Jesse Marsch has held a meeting with Victor Orta to discuss their approach ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-marsch-raphinha-dest-philhay” title=”Read the latest Leeds news!”]

The American was brought to Yorkshire in February after Marcelo Bielsa was relieved of his duties and has not had the chance to bring his own players into Elland Road as of yet, as he joined after the January window.

Cross tweeted: “Marsch and Orta met last week to discuss recruitment. Head coach keen to tell the scouts about his tactical vision, the player profiles he likes and how the current crop are adapting to his system.”

Supporters will be excited

This claim will surely leave Leedss supporters excited for multiple reasons ahead of the summer transfer window.

Firstly, it shows that Marsch is eager to get work done as quickly as possible, despite the current season still being in progress. Leeds have six matches left to play in the 2021/22 Premier League and are nine points clear of the relegation zone as it stands, which means that there is still plenty on the line over the coming weeks.

They are not completely out of trouble yet and you could excuse the American for not wanting to look too far into the future, but he is seemingly keen to be prepared for the summer. Supporters will therefore be buzzing with this proactive approach from the head coach, as it will give Orta more time to work on the deals that he wants to complete.

Fans will also be excited by this claim, as it confirms that Marsch is being given full creative control in the transfer department. He is being allowed to shape the way in which Leeds scout players in order to build the squad in his image, and this an exciting prospect for supporters heading into next season as they now know that signings will be coming in with a bigger image in mind.

They can look forward to seeing how Marsch wants his team to play once he has the players that he needs. It is now down to the scouts to find the right hidden gems, and to Orta to ensure that he can strike the deals to bring them to Elland Road.

AND in other news, Marsch must ruthlessly axe “awful” Leeds star adored by Bielsa, he’s not good enough…
