On Thursday night the Twins played their first game at Target Field since the Pohlad family announced they would not be selling the team. Minnesota proceded to go out and lose to the Tigers in extra innings with manager Rocco Baldelli getting ejected following a colorful argument about whether or not a foul tip was caught or not.
The emotions from the loss, coupled with the recent news about the team's ownership situation, had the words "sell the team" fresh on everyone's mind and that became especially apparent during the team's postgame show where fans could be heard loudly chanting the request.
The Twins entered the season with a mid-range payroll, well above teams like the Marlins and Athletics, but far behind real contenders who are spending about twice as much each season in an attempt to put a competitive team on the field.
Two years removed from their last postseason appearance, Minnesota is currently 57-64, seven games out of the wild card.
Throughout the years, Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been truly blessed with the chance to watch numerous elite-level attackers feature for the club.
Players such as Heung-min Son, Teddy Sheringham and Harry Kane all managed to make themselves club-legends in North London, with the latter breaking nearly every record in sight.
The 32-year-old currently sits at the top of the Lilywhites’ all-time scoring charts on 280, which saw 208 of his efforts come in the Premier League – with only Alan Shearer scoring more.
However, Spurs’ lack of success on the pitch ultimately led to his departure in 2023, which has left boss Thomas Frank unable to have the chance to work alongside the talisman.
He will no doubt want his own elite-level talent within the final third, potentially landing a player of that calibre during the upcoming January transfer window.
Spurs’ hunt for new attackers in January
Over the last couple of months, Spurs have been just one Premier League side linked with a potential deal for Porto star Sami Aghehowa in the winter window.
The Spaniard has been in tremendous goalscoring form during the early stages of 2025/26, as seen by his remarkable tally of 13 goals in his first 22 appearances across all competitions.
However, the Portuguese outfit don’t want to lose their star man anytime soon, subsequently slapping an €80m (£70m) asking price onto the 21-year-old’s head.
He’s not the only centre-forward in their sights ahead of the upcoming window, with Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta another player being considered by Fabio Paratici.
According to one Spanish outlet, the Lilywhites are seriously considering tabling a bid for the Frenchman in January, as his contract talks at Selhurst Park look to have stalled in recent weeks.
It also states that the Eagles may be forced to offload the 28-year-old in the near future to avoid losing him for nothing, with his current deal set to expire in June 2027.
Why Spurs’ latest target would be Frank’s next Mbeumo
During Frank’s time in charge at Brentford before taking the Spurs job, he often had numerous top-level attackers at his disposal, which helped make the Bees an established top-flight club.
The Dane mainly relied on forward Bryan Mbeumo during the latter years of his spell at the GTEC, with the Cameroonian international providing a constant source of goals in the Premier League.
During the 2024/25 season, the 26-year-old netted a career-best 20 league goals, ending the campaign as just one of five players to achieve the feat in the division.
He no doubt thrived under the 52-year-old across the capital, so much so that the manager made a fierce attempt to land his signature after taking the reins in North London.
However, a reunion just wasn’t meant to be, as Mbeumo opted for a move to join Manchester United during the summer, subsequently leading Frank to hunt for a new talisman.
The likes of Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison have often provided the goods in attacking areas for Spurs this campaign, but Frank could get his new star forward with a move for Mateta this winter.
The Palace star has registered 30 goals in the last two full seasons in England’s top-flight, whilst already making huge waves during the first 15 games of the new campaign.
Mateta already has seven goals in 2025/26, but it’s his underlying stats from his outings at Selhurst Park that would make him Frank’s next star attacker in the capital.
The French international, who’s been dubbed “world-class” by one analyst, has registered 1.6 shots on target per 90 this season, which such a tally ranking him in the top 7% of all players in the league.

Such a figure showcases his relentless nature in front of goal, handing the Spurs side the constant nuisance and goal threat they have lacked since Kane’s departure.
He’s also completed 53% of his attempted dribbles to date, whilst achieving a 75% cross completion rate – highlighting his all-round nature within the final third.
His biggest asset is his hold-up play, which could allow the Lilywhites to have the needed focal point they’ve craved, with the striker winning 2.5 aerials per 90 so far this season.
It could hand Frank the aerial presence needed to dominate in the 18-yard box, but also an option to help link the play and create intricate moves off a direct ball into the striker.
Whilst he operates in a different role to Mbeumo, the pair have both demonstrated their goalscoring prowess in recent times, with clinical goalscorers often hard to come by in the modern game.
Mateta could provide Frank with exactly what he wants in the January window, with such a move handing the Dane the perfect attacking option to kickstart his career in charge of the Lilywhites.

Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy lost for the second time in as many matches since arriving at Parkhead with a 3-0 defeat at home to Roma in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Hoops boss lost 2-1 to Hearts in his first match in the dugout, but was unable to get a reaction out of his players for this clash with the Italian giants.
Celtic found themselves 3-0 down at half-time, as Roma ran riot, but they missed the chance to give themselves a lifeline for the second 45 when Arne Engels hit the post from the penalty spot.
The Belgian star hit the penalty sweetly, aiming for the bottom left corner, but his effort came crashing off the post, which meant that the Hoops were 3-0 down at the break.
Why Arne Engels deserves to keep his place in the team
Engels may be an easy target for criticism because of his penalty miss, which is understandable after a 3-0 loss, but there were also some positive elements to his performance to go along with his struggles.
On the one hand, the Belgium international lost six of his eight duels on the ground, per Sofascore, which shows that he was a bit too weak in his physical battles with the Roma midfielders.
On the other hand, though, the former Augsburg star made a lot of impressive runs down the right channel on the overlap and came close to creating chances a couple of times before he should have had an assist for Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored from his ball across the box but had just strayed offside.
As well as what should have been an assist for Kelechi, Engels created one ‘big chance’ in the match, per Sofascore, and showed that he has the creative quality to make things happen in this new system.
A player who has not had as much success in Nancy’s 3-4-2-1 system is Sebastian Tounekti, who should be dropped for the League Cup final against St Mirren on Sunday.

In this wing-back role, the 23-year-old has more defensive responsibility, as he has to track back to sometimes drop into a back five out of possession, and it sometimes leaves him without much support in wide areas, which can leave him in situations on his own against two or three defenders.
As a natural winger, the defensive side of the game has caught Tounekti out. Per Sofascore, the Tunisian whiz lost four of his five physical duels and failed to make a single tackle or interception against Roma.
On top of his defensive troubles, the wing-back did not register a shot on target and did not create any ‘big chances’ for the team against the Italian side in 90 minutes on the pitch, per Sofascore.

As you can see in the table above, Tounekti has lost the ball 29 times in two games without deliver a goal or an assist in his first two matches as a wing-back.
He has also lost the majority of his duels across both games, after losing seven out of 12 against Hearts, which shows that he does not have the physicality or defensive awareness to be effective in that role, at least without more training and understanding of the position.
Because of how awful Tounekti has been in his first two games in the position, Nancy must ruthlessly drop him from the starting line-up for the clash with St Mirren on Sunday, given that it is a cup final and the Hoops need reliable options across the pitch.
Moving Kieran Tierney, a natural wing-back, forward and bringing another defender, like Colby Donovan, to play in the back three could be a sensible move to make after Celtic conceded five goals in their first two games with this new system.

Notably, Salah has struggled to adapt to changes around him such as Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak’s arrivals at the club. Now, that isn’t to say he hasn’t contributed, but shifting dynamics and a need to accommodate new stars have left the Egyptian hero caught in an awkward movie.
Five goals and three assists in 17 appearances across all competitions isn’t a bad record by any means. However, his overall influence on the side hasn’t been as prominent, something that may also be underpinned by Luis Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich.
Salah and Cody Gakpo lost the ball a combined 53 times against Nottingham Forest, something that made it difficult to string together consistent attacking passages of play in the cold light of day.
While nobody could’ve argued with Liverpool’s recruitment in the summer, football is never cut and dry and their collapse over recent weeks has definitely redefined what their priorities will be for the rest of the campaign.
Ultimately, the Premier League title may be a bridge too far unless there is a dramatic change in circumstances, but there is still plenty of glory to be derived should the Reds manage to get their act together over the coming months.
Eventually, Salah will be replaced, and Liverpool may now have identified the star that could succeed him at Anfield amid recent developments.

Enjoying another positive campaign, the London-born winger has already notched nine goals and ten assists in 19 appearances across all competitions, with Fotmob showing he has created 24 chances in the Bundesliga.
Evidently, bringing in a Salah successor won’t come easy and Liverpool would need to part with a record fee to land someone like Olise, but he is someone worth taking the chance on going by his exploits over the last few years.

Then it was over to Nicholas Pooran, with Alex Hales his able collaborator, to knock off the runs with 15 balls and nine wickets in hand – Falcons were out of CPL 2025, and Knight Riders are now in Qualifier 2, where they will take on either Guyana Amazon Warriors or St Lucia Kings, and take them on full of confidence.The last two games of the CPL group stage had been played in Providence too, and a total in the range of 185-190 might have been competitive based on that small evidence. On the night, though, Pooran made it seem like even 215-220 wouldn’t have been enough.Knight Riders had gotten off to a good start courtesy Colin Munro and Hales, who put on 25 in three overs before Munro fell. But that was it as far as Falcons’ bowling was concerned.Pooran signalled his intentions off only the third legal ball he had faced, sending wicket-taker Rahkeem Cornwall over deep midwicket for six to get off the mark. The game was pretty much over then and there, and for a while, Hales and Pooran went neck and neck, Hales on 42 from 30 and Pooran on 45 from 36 at the end of the 13th, with just 58 left to get. Earlier, Amir Jangoo and Andries Gous put on a century stand for the Kings’ second wicket after Netravalkar had got his first wicket, of Cornwall, in the third over. Solid as they were, Jangoo and Gous were never going fast enough to really worry Knight Riders, their 108 runs taking 85 balls.As a result, when Jangoo (55 in 49 balls) and Gous (61 in 45) both fell in the 17th over, to the ever-impressive Tariq, all Falcons had on the board was 130. They had Shakib’s 26 not out in just nine balls, with four fours and a six, to thank for taking them to 166, but it looked like they had fallen short.Netravalkar returned 3 for 23 from his four overs and Tariq 2 for 19 from his four. When two of your five bowlers have figures like that, you usually finish on the winning side, as Knight Riders did, keeping alive their hopes of collecting a record fifth CPL title.
Continuing their search for their next manager, Celtic have already been hit with a problem in pursuit of Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen, who has impressed the Bhoys during his time in Belgium.
The last thing Celtic need is a managerial saga, but they may have no choice. The Scottish Premiership champions must get their next appointment right and silencing the noise to do exactly that will be key.
That is, of course, easier said than done with several candidates already shortlisted and the likes of Chris Sutton already having their say on the vacant position.
The former Celtic star believes that Ange Postecoglou is the “obvious” choice and it’s easy to see why. The Australian won five trophies out of a possible six during his last spell at the club and is currently a free agent after lasting just 39 days at Nottingham Forest.
There will be some concerns about his recent performances in the dugout, but the Bhoys know more than anyone just how quickly Postecoglou can create success.
Another name on the reported shortlist is Kieran McKenna. The Ipswich manager took the Tractor Boys from League one all the way to the Premier League in back-to-back promotions, before suffering relegation from England’s top flight last season.
Although he has endured a tough year at Portman Road, his reputation remains intact and managerial ability clear for all to see. Whether Celtic would be able to lure him away from Ipswich remains to be seen, however, and that’s a problem they face with another candidate.

The 45-year-old has impressed in Belgium and would have no trouble convincing those at Celtic Park that he’s the right man for the job after smashing Rangers 9-1 on aggregate in the Champions League qualifiers back in August. Alas, there still lies one problem.
Luring Hayen away from Brugge could yet prove to be a difficult task and that instantly hands Celtic an obstacle that they’ll have to overcome if he emerges as their top choice.
Celtic already watched on as Rangers endured managerial chaos and may choose to avoid taking a similar path. If that does prove to be the case, then Hayen could become an unlikely candidate.
It’s clear why Brugge will be so desperate to keep their young manager, too. Speaking to The Guardian in January, the owner of Haverfordwest, Rob Edwards, who worked with Hayen at the Welsh club before he set off for Belgium said: “He’s a workaholic and that rubs off on players, it rubs off on staff and it gets everyone behind you if you lead from the front.
“I always knew he was going to go off somewhere else. We didn’t have him that long, but to see what he’s achieved since then makes us all really proud.”

Jorgen Strand Larsen has admitted to being affected by Wolves' stance on a transfer away this summer as the club blocked his proposed move to Newcastle. At the end of the window, Strand Larsen stayed at Molineux and earlier this month he signed a new long-term contract. After failing to secure a move away from Wolves, Strand Larsen signed a new long-term contract earlier this month, which will keep him at the club until 2030. However, despite committing his future, the Norway international has hinted that he could still be on the move.
'Everyone wants to take new steps'
Speaking to , Strand Larsen said: "It has been turbulent this summer, of course. Personally, I think it was great to be done with it. Of course, you are a little affected, everyone has a dream of taking new steps. At the same time, I feel very safe and good here at Wolves. I got the captain’s armband today, and I feel that I am important to the team.
"But at the same time, you want to take new steps when you do well. The more years I do well at Wolves, the better my chances are in the future. Now it’s day by day to try to get better with my body, and then we’ll take it from there. Everyone wants to take new steps; it was a Champions League club we were talking about. But it will come again, and it will continue. The important thing is that the club showed confidence in me afterwards, and we solved that in a good way."
On signing a new deal, Larsen added: "Yes, it was good. That says something about the season from last year being rewarded with something positive."
